When you buy mafia 2 or Mafia: Trilogy on steam, you get the original 2010 version of mafia 2 and the definitive edition remaster that came out 2 years ago. Verify the files in steam, might be that. If its still crashes, its either you have something wrong with your PC.. or the most likely, the game is just a mess, just like it always was.
It's worth it since you getting it for the pc you can tweak the game to your liking with mods. It is, assuming you have played the original before. Amazingly, the remake manages to reproduce the good aspects o the original, as well as the bad ones. Indeed, the gameplay is very rough and pretty basic.xgGM.
